inferior optic radiation
Acronym:
The term inferior optic radiation refers to the more ventral of two portions of the optic radiation; the other is the superior optic radiation. The inferior portion loops rostrally from the lateral geniculate nucleus toward the temporal pole, then caudally in the wall of the lateral ventricle to the inferior bank of the calcarine sulcus, primary visual cortex, or the monkey area 17 of Brodmann (guenon). The inferior radiation conveys information from the inferior part of the retina, which 'sees' the upper part of the visual field ( Crosby-1962; Carpenter-1983 )..
