vomeronasal organ
Acronym:
The term vomeronasal organ refers to a receptor organ sensitive to pheromones that is located in the nasal mucosa of macrosmatic mammals. In the human it is found in the nasal septum, far from the origin of the olfactory nerve, which is beneath the cribriform plate high in the nasal cavity. In macrosmotic mammals the organ connects to the brain through the vomeronasal nerve to the accessory olfactory bulb. Connections to the brain have not been demonstrated morphologically in the human ( Moran-1995 ).
