The term occipital region refers to a cytoarchitecturally defined portion of the cerebral cortex. It occupies most of the occipital lobe and a portion of the temporal lobe. It is composed of the primary visual cortex, the area 18 of Brodmann (human) and the area 19 of Brodmann (human) ( Brodmann-1909 ).
