area 10v
Acronym: 10v
The term area 10v (10v) refers to a functionally identified part of cerebral cortex (CTX) at the frontal pole (frp) in the human ( Glasser-2016 ). Topologically it is located in the inferior rostral gyrus (RSG) ( Mai-1997 ). Histologically it is entirely part of the granular cortical area 10, including ventral parts of area 10p, area 10 r and half of area 10 m ( Ongur-2003 ). The macaque lacks areas 10p and 10r but has an area 10m that occupies the entire topological area of granular cortex on the mesial aspect of the frontal lobe occupied by the three subdivisions of area 10 in the human ( Wise-2008 ). Area 10v has no histological equivalent in the the rat or mouse ( Wise-2008 ).
Functionally area 10v is fMRI-activated in tasks involving FACES and THEORY OF MIND and in a LANGUAGE-MATH contrast task. It is deactivated in a MATH task. Other authors have referred to an overlapping part of the same topological area as Fp1 ( Glasser-2016 ).
