basal pons
Acronym: BPons
The term basal pons refers to the more ventral of two neural parts of the pons. Found in the human ( Carpenter-1983 ), the macaque ( Martin-2000 ), the rat ( Swanson-2004 ) and the mouse ( Hof-2000 ), it is composed of pontine nuclei, longitudinal pontine fibers, transverse pontine fibers and the middle cerebellar peduncle. The other part of the pons is the pontine tegmentum ( Carpenter-1983 ).
