The Neocortex of Macaca Mulatta

Bonin Gv, Bailey P
University of Illinois Press, Urbana, Illinois, 1947

Macaca mulatta; English terms; no stereotaxic coordinates. Drawings of cortical surface with sulci labeled. Excellent high-resolution photomicrographs of cytoarchitecture of cortical areas. Definitions based primarily on cytoarchitecture with some reference to myeloarchitecture. Nomenclature based on von Economo's nomenclature for human cortical areas. The authors provide very detailed comparisons and discussions of possible sources of differences between their findings and those of earlier investigators. They also evaluate homology and lack of homology to the human areas defined by von Economo (1929). The authors studied 10 macaques and 2 guenons (Cercopithecus). They concluded, in agreement with Brodmann-1909 and Mauss-1908, who had included macaques in their studies, that the cytoarchitectural areas in the Macaca and Cercopithecus genera were the same.
