anterior short gyrus (ASG)

The term anterior short gyrus refers to one of three short insular gyri identified by dissection in the human. It is bounded rostrally by the anterior limiting sulcus and caudally by the short insular sulcus, which separates it from the middle short gyrus of the insula. The third gyrus is the posterior short gyrus ( Ture-1999 ). The short insular gyri are not found in macaques or rodents.

Also known as: first short gyrus (human), Gyrus brevis I, anterior short gyrus, anterior short insular gyrus
