The term septo-hypothalamo-mesencephalic continuum refers to neural circuitry linking autonomic or limbic centers in the septum of the cerebrum, the preoptic area of the hypothalamus in the diencephalon and the rostral portion of the midbrain ( Carpenter-1983 ).
