dorsal auditory areas

The term dorsal auditory areas refers to one of three subdivisions of the auditory cortex of the cerebral cortex that are defined on the basis of cytoarchitecture in the rat ( Swanson-2004 ) and the mouse ( Hof-2000 ). They are involved in the perception of sounds. This subdivision is located dorsal to the primary auditory cortex, which is in turn dorsal to the third subdivision, the ventral auditory areas.
