The term basal ganglia circuit refers to a definition of the term " basal ganglia " widely used in clinical medicine and systems neuroscience. Based on the functional relatedness and connectivity of structures as well as proximity, it includes the striatum, the globus pallidus, the subthalamus and the substantia nigra ( Parent-1996 ).
