medial longitudinal fasciculus of the spinal cord

The term medial longitudinal fasciculus of the spinal cord refers to the portion of the medial longitudinal fasciculus located in the spinal cord. The medial longitudinal fasciculus ends in the cervical segments of the cord ( Crosby-1962 ). A prominent part of it is the medial vestibulospinal tract, which contains fibers primarily from the medial vestibular nucleus. The tract is a component of the anterior white column of the cord. Other components are the ventral propriospinal tract, the anterior spinothalamic tract of the spinal cord and the lateral vestibulospinal tract of the spinal cord ( Carpenter-1983 ).
