The term horizontal nucleus of the lateral lemniscus refers to a narrow band of cells located between the dorsal nucleus of the lateral lemniscus and the ventral nucleus of the lateral lemniscus in the rat ( Swanson-2004 ) and the mouse ( Dong-2004 ). Functionally it belongs to the subcortical auditory system ( Swanson-2004 ).
