ventral zone of the juxtaventromedial region

The term ventral zone of the juxtaventromedial region refers to one of two zones of the juxtaventromedial region in the rat. The other is the dorsal zone of the juxtaventromedial region. Defined on the basis of cytoarchitecture and connections, it is a group of neurons that differ from those of the dorsal zone in that they are even less densely packed and they receive no input from the basolateral amygdalar nucleus. They are located lateral to the ventromedial nucleus of the hypothalamus. Functionally the cell groups belong to the motor lateral hypothalamus of the brainstem motor system ( Swanson-2004 ).
