interpeduncular fossa (ipf)

The term interpeduncular fossa (ipf) refers to the portion of the interpeduncular cistern (icis) located between the cerebral crura (CRC) on the rostroventral surface of the midbrain (MBR). Identified by dissection, it is found in the human ( Carpenter-1983 ) and the macaque ( Martin-2000 ). No equivalent appears in brain atlases of the rat ( Paxinos-2009b ) or mouse ( Franklin-2008 ).
