The term superior frontopolar gyrus (FPGs) refers to the dorsal-most of three transverse frontopolar gyri (FPG) located at the frontal pole (fpl) of the human frontal lobe (FLB). They are defined topologically by gross dissection. The other two are the middle frontopolar gyrus (FPGm) and the inferior frontopolar gyrus (FPGi) ( Mai-1997 ). Histologically, all are neocortex ( Brodmann-1909). Equivalent structures are not found in the macaque or in the smooth cerebral cortex of the rat or mouse ( NeuroNames ). Final 26 Mar 2026.
