The term anterior intraparietal area (AIP) refers to a structurally and functionally defined area located anteriorly on the lateral wall of the intraparietal sulcus (ips) in the human ( Glasser-2016 ) and the macaque ( Durand-2007 ). In the human, it is the most rostral area of the intraparietal region. Functionally, it is the grasping area ( Rizzolatti-2003 ). Functionally, it detects the identity and location of three dimensional (3D) objects rotating in four dimensional (4D) spacetime ( Durand-2007 ).
