The term area 2 of Mauss is located primarily in the postcentral gyrus of the macaque and the guenon. It is defined on the basis of myeloarchitecture; Mauss regarded it as topologically homologous to the cytoarchitectonic area 2 of Brodmann (guenon) ( Mauss-1908 ). Authors von Bonin and Bailey disputed the existence of area 2 which they sought unsuccessfully to identify in the macaque as area PD of Bonin ( Bonin-1947 ).
