corticoamygdalar area
Acronym: CAA
The term corticoamygdalar area (CAA) refers to a histologically defined transitional zone between the piriform cortex (PIR) and the periamygdalar cortex (PAC). In the human it is located in the anterior parahippocampal gyrus (PHGa) between PIR medially and entorhinal cortex (ENT) laterally ( Mai-1997 ). In the rat ( Paxinos 2009b ), it is located between the anterior periamygdalar cortex (PACa) medially and PIR ( Franklin-2008 ) or entorhinal cortex ENT ( Hof-2000 ) laterally.
      CAA is not identified in the macaque ( Paxinos-2009a ). There the PIR is bounded directly by rostral ENT with the narrow part nearest PIR identified as the olfactory entorhinal cortex (ENTolf). Final 25 Jan 2025.
