The term periventricular recess of the third ventricle refers to an extension of the third ventricle in the rat that is bounded superiorly by the reuniens nucleus, laterally by the lateral hypothalamic area, and inferiorly by the dorsomedial nucleus of the hypothalamus ( Swanson-2004 ).
