pontine cistern

The term pontine cistern refers to the cerebrospinal fluid filled space between the ventral surface of the pons and the dura mater that surrounds the brain. Histologically it is bounded by pia mater on the surface of the pons and by arachnoid on the inner surface of the dura mater ( Gray-1918a ).
