The term central gray columns refers to the anterior gray column, the posterior gray column and the lateral gray column of the spinal cord. They constitute the entire spinal central gray except lamina X crossing the midline and the portion of lamina VII not occupied by the lateral gray column ( Carpenter-1983; Schiebler-1999 ).
