paraterminal gyrus (PTG)

The term paraterminal gyrus refers to a rostral part of the limbic lobe as defined topologically by dissection in the human ( Carpenter-1983 ). It is located rostral to the lamina terminalis, ventral to the subcallosal gyrus, dorsal to the straight gyrus and caudal to the anterior cingulate gyrus. The paraterminall gyrus is not found in the macaque where the topologically comparable area is classified as part of the the anterior cingulate gyrus ( Martin-2000 ), Nor is it found in the smooth cerebral cortex of the rat and mouse, which do not have sulcal landmarks ( Swanson-2004 Franklin-2008 ). Structural CNS Model - Macaque

Brain structures of the macaque are illustrated in BrainInfo’s NeuroMaps macaque brain atlas. Structures are grouped by proximity in a hierarchy corresponding to the central nervous system hierarchy of NeuroNames ( Bowden-1995 Martin-2000 ). Structures in the NeuroMaps atlas are based on the segmentation of an MRI of the brain of a 3-year old male rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta).
