supracallosal gyrus (SPC)

The term supracallosal gyrus (SPG) refers to a very small composite structure defined by dissection, which, in the human, extends along the dorsal surface of the corpus callosum (cc) from the dentate gyrus.(DNG) and fasciola cinerea FSC caudally to the paraterminal gyrus (PTG) rostrally. It consists of three longitudinal structures: the medial longitudinal stria (mls), the indusium griseum (IDG) and the lateral longitudinal stria (lls) ( Riley-1943 ). In the macaque ( Martin-2000 ) it is similarly located. It is not present in the smooth cortex of the rat and mouse. In those species the IDG is embedded in cingulate cortex (CGX) where it is defined histologically ( Swanson-2004; Hof-2000 ). Final 22 Dec 2024.

Structural CNS Model - Macaque

Brain structures of the macaque are illustrated in BrainInfo’s NeuroMaps macaque brain atlas. Structures are grouped by proximity in a hierarchy corresponding to the central nervous system hierarchy of NeuroNames ( Bowden-1995 Martin-2000 ). Structures in the NeuroMaps atlas are based on the segmentation of an MRI of the brain of a 3-year old male rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta).
