The term Cornu Ammonis (Shaw) is Latin for 'horn of ammon', which "refers to the Egyptian mythology in which Ammon (Amen or Amun) was the sun god, the father of gods, the god of reproductive forces. He was depicted as having a ram's head with spirally curved horns." Anatomically the horn of Ammon consists of the fornix and the hippocampal complex.
